“You are a role model for your generation” – Amina Mohammed hails Hamzat Lawal at 35

Amina Mohammed, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), said Hamzat Lawal, Managing Director of Connected Development (CODE), is a role model for his generation.

Mohammed said this during Lawal’s 35th anniversary symposium in Abuja on Saturday.

She appreciated Lawal for his hard work in grassroots activism, adding that there is still work to be done to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She added that young people like Lawal are taking leadership in complex environments around the world and this gives her hope for the future.

“Hamzat, your grassroots activism, your idealism and your entrepreneurial strides are inspiring. As a champion of the SDGs and good governance, you are a role model for your generation,” she said.

“Thank you so much for your hard work with Connected Development, Follow The Money and your many other projects to build a better Nigeria and leave no one behind.

“I know your journey has only just begun and I am sure you will continue to surprise and impress us for many years to come. There is so much work to do, from COVID to conflict, we face many daunting challenges.

“But here’s why I’m hopeful for the future, I already see your generation taking leadership in complex environments around the world. Whether it’s climate change, human rights, political participation, gender equality, young people like you are challenging the status quo and driving change in Nigeria and around the world.

“You make a difference Hamzat, the United Nations is happy to be your partner. Together let’s build a world where everyone can live in dignity, prosperity and thus live in a safe and healthy factory. Happy Birthday.”
