The £25,000-a-week ‘model’ returns, a £9m-rated ‘wicked’ gem in: Predicted Saints XI tonight
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton are back in action tonight, desperate to bounce back from their humiliating 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa at the weekend.
Sitting ninth in the Premier League table, Saints could move within two points of eighth-place Wolves, should they earn a victory against a revitalized Newcastle United side.
Hasenhuttl was without one of his star defenders at the weekend, while another was left on the bench and replaced ineffectively, but with both available tonight the Austrian coach is expected to make two changes to his starting lineup.
That being said, here’s how we think Southampton will line up against Newcastle tonight, as well as the latest squad and injury news…
After Hasenhuttl revealed that Mohammed Salisu, who is valued at £9million by Transfermarkt, could be available for selection tonight, we expect him to start as well as Kyle Walker-Peters, the Englishman from £25,000 a week having his best season as Premier. League so far.
Salisu, who has been described as a ‘nasty’ defender to take on in a duel by Hasenhuttl, has been out for a few games now after suffering a hamstring injury but was pictured during first-team training at the start of the week, and his manager admitted in the pre-match press conference that there was a chance he could play today.
Meanwhile Walker-Peters, who has been described as a ‘role model’ by his boss, has filled in at left-back well this season when called up – and is likely to get the green light on Romain Perraud who had a disastrous game against Villa at the weekend.
Fraser Forster in goal will complete the backline, with Jan Bednarek and Tino Livramento the other two defenders.
In midfield, James Ward-Prowse will field Oriol Romeu again, with wingers Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi retaining their positions in the squad.
Che Adams and Armando Broja will likely continue their strong partnership at the top, which has hinted at 13 Premier League goals between them.
