Kris Boyd suggests role switch for Rangers ace Joe Aribo vs RB Leipzig

Kris Boyd admits Giovanni van Bronckhorst has many permutations to sort out ahead of Rangers vs RB Leipzig clash.

He thinks they could go with a number nine and Joe Aribo could play that role.

Fashion Sakala hasn’t been great lately and he may not be asked to replace Alfredo Morelos.

“Are Rangers playing with the false nine? Fashion Sakala’s performance in Braga drew a lot of criticism,” he told Sky Sports.

“Sakala, from a wide area, can cause problems. When you look at Rangers so far this season, Ryan Kent has come between midfield and forwards as a false nine as such off Roofe or Morelos.

“Then you’re looking to bring in a Steven Davis in midfield, so are you playing Aribo as the false nine? There are many permutations that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have to determine which is best over the next few days.

Could work

The lack of a focal point is damning for any club, let alone Rangers.

Nobody else can offer this team what Morelos does.

What van Bronckhorst can do is modify his system so that his role becomes redundant.

Some of the Gers attackers are extremely mobile and can play this role with ease.

The likes of Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe, Amad Diallo and even Sakala could look to exploit the spaces left behind if Aribo falls deep.

This could give Leipzig nightmares and could send their game plan upside down.

This is undoubtedly the biggest test for van Bronckhorst since taking over from Steven Gerrard and it remains to be seen if he will pull it off with flying colors.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘unconvinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
